Aboriginal Child Protection Specialist Role

As an Aboriginal Child Protection Specialist, you will collaborate with families and children to ensure their safety and well-being. You will be responsible for conducting home visits, developing comprehensive safety strategies, and working collaboratively with other agencies to create a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engage sensitively and respectfully with parents, family members, children or young people, acknowledging the importance of cultural sensitivity.
  2. Develop tailored safety plans and conduct thorough risk assessments to safeguard individuals and communities.
  3. Manage complex cases and situations, including working with high-needs and high-risk clients and their families, requiring exceptional problem-solving skills.
  4. Participate in court processes, including the preparation of detailed court documents and attending court hearings to advocate for vulnerable populations.
  5. Engage in regular individual and group supervision sessions to refine practice and stay updated on best practices.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • A relevant diploma or degree qualification is desirable; however, applicants without a relevant qualification must have at least two years' experience working with vulnerable children, young people, and their families, demonstrating transferable skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for building positive relationships and facilitating effective collaboration.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Current driver's licence and a valid paid working with children clearance number.
  • Documentation verifying Aboriginality and descent, confirming identity as an Aboriginal person.
