Job Title: Dairy Farm Operations Manager

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team as a Dairy Farm Operations Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of milk production, from planning and coordination to implementation and monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and coordinate milking shed routines, ensuring efficient and safe operation.
  2. Implement reproductive programs, including artificial insemination and herd fertility management, to optimize breeding outcomes.
  3. Assist in controlled breeding experiments to develop improved livestock strains.
  4. Conduct calving procedures, including internal assessments to minimize stillbirths or injuries to cows or calves.
  5. Develop and manage pastures and crops for livestock production, and create feeding plans to meet animal nutritional needs.
  6. Monitor produce quality and set standards to ensure consistent excellence.
  7. Supervise animal health programs, handle sick or injured animals, and maintain a healthy environment for livestock.
  8. Oversee work routines and staff performance, providing guidance and support to less experienced employees.
  9. Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures, ensuring compliance and accurate documentation.
  10. Operate milking plant and equipment safely, undertaking tasks such as reading instrument data, recording temperatures, and matching cow IDs to calves.
  11. Manage dairy recycling systems and operate farm and dairy shed-related vehicles, plant, and equipment.
  12. Perform calf feeding tasks, including tubing colostrum.
  13. Assist with irrigation works and inspect livestock to evaluate feed formula effectiveness.
  14. Transport, handle, and store chemicals; prepare and apply them as needed.
  15. Identify and report malfunctioning equipment, maintaining plant and machinery.
  16. Where qualified, perform maintenance works on sheds, fixtures, fences, and surrounds, and install new or replacement equipment.
  17. Transport stock, feed, and equipment when licensed to do so.
  18. Maintain accurate records for stock and inventory control.
  19. Ensure food safety regulatory requirements are met.
  20. Contribute to and implement occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements.
  21. Be computer literate, operating computer equipment and software packages as needed.
  22. Coordinate emergency responses for OHS and animal welfare emergencies.
  23. Participate in enterprise/industry training sessions and workshops as required.
