Job Description

This is a targeted vacancy, requiring an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to fill this position. It is essential that one of the referees should be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to the applicant's background, knowledge, skills, and experience as they relate to the cultural capabilities.

The key responsibilities of this role include effectively engaging with children, families, carers and service providers to support the cultural needs of children and families. This involves working collaboratively with key stakeholders, including children and parents, families and Recognised Entities, to establish and strengthen effective safety and support networks.

Another critical responsibility is providing high quality cultural advice and direction to assist in informing decisions about the safety needs of children. The candidate will also participate effectively and provide cultural leadership in a multidisciplinary team to deliver well-planned and culturally appropriate family support services.

In addition to these responsibilities, the successful candidate will contribute to strengthening workforce cultural capability through sharing their cultural advice, knowledge of communities, and awareness of culturally significant processes and events.Required Skills and Qualifications

Key qualifications for this role include being able to recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and having the capacity to consult and negotiate according to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols in the community you work in. You must know about and understand the historical and contemporary issues that impact on both cultures.

Able to draw on personal experience and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditions and customs to provide high quality, culturally safe and appropriate child protection services.
