Role Overview

This position involves working on the Hunter Class Frigate Program, creating and integrating 3D piping system models and 2D production outputs using advanced digital shipbuilding toolsets.

  • Officer Level (Entry Level – TAFE Graduate or less than 2 years experience): Developing skills in creating piping layouts and isometric drawings under supervision, assisting with system integration and spatial coordination in a 3D design environment, supporting the team in problem investigations and proposing practical solutions, and building technical competence by engaging with experienced designers and staying up to date with standards and technologies.
  • Intermediate Level (between 2 and 10 years of experience): Producing accurate piping system models, fabrication drawings, and installation details in accordance with engineering and quality standards, ensuring all deliverables meet project requirements for safety, accuracy, and constructability, collaborating with engineers, production, and other design disciplines to resolve integration challenges, and contributing to design reviews, identifying improvements, and applying lessons learned to future work.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and integrating piping systems in a 3D CAD environment, proven ability to produce fabrication, spool, and installation drawings for mechanical/piping systems, proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD tools, diploma of Engineering (Technical) or equivalent relevant industry experience, strong communication skills, and intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities.
  • Desirable: trade background or piping design experience in shipbuilding, oil & gas, or heavy industry.
