Job Title: Canine Development Specialist

This role is responsible for the training and development of recruit dogs for a police dog squad. The position is based at a complex and involves working with German Shepherds, primarily in tracking, apprehension, and obedience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support breeding and whelping of dogs to meet operational needs.
  • Condition and focus genetic drives of pups and dogs to meet service requirements.
  • Maintain currency and knowledge of contemporary dog training and development theories.
  • Monitor and evaluate development of pups and dogs who are candidates for operational work.
  • Provide advice and assistance to foster carers involved in the canine foster care program.
  • Assist with assessment of potential police dogs offered to the service or to be purchased.
  • Maintain accurate records of animals in the organization.
  • Comply with relevant policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications or extensive practical experience in animal husbandry and/or dog training would be highly regarded.
  • Applications will remain current for 12 months.
