Police Dog Trainer

The Police Dog Training position is a key role within the department responsible for the training and development of recruit dogs for operational work.

This role supports the breeding, whelping, and foster care programs. The core capability requirements include:

  • Supporting the breeding program to meet service needs.
  • Conditioning and focusing genetic drives in pups and dogs.
  • Maintaining currency and knowledge of contemporary dog training and development theories.
  • Monitoring and evaluating pup and dog development for suitability in operational work.
  • Providing advice and assistance to foster carers involved in the canine foster care program.
  • Assessing potential police dogs offered or to be purchased.
  • Maintaining dog development aides and records.
  • Complying with relevant policies and standing orders.
Requirements

Technical/Operational/Educational experience:

  • Qualifications or extensive practical experience in animal husbandry and/or dog training would be highly regarded.
