
Animal Welfare Specialist

Make a real difference in the lives of animals.
This role is a hands-on leadership position that supports both animals and their care teams. You'll coordinate animal welfare programs, manage daily care for animals, and provide vital administrative support to the team. This diverse and rewarding role combines animal husbandry, behaviour support, community engagement, and logistics—all with the goal of achieving the best outcomes for animals in need.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily health checks, enrichment activities, and animal husbandry at our facility.
- Coordinate and implement behaviour assessments and enrichment programs.
- Safely transport animals to vet appointments and ensure stress-free handling environments.
- Support the care team in the field and coordinate transfers to other facilities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in our animal care systems.
- Provide guidance and animal support as needed.
- Liaise with vets, councils, and other animal-related partners.
- Participate in staff rostering and training.
- Act as the primary contact for foster carers and offsite adoption centres, ensuring positive relationships.
- Administer preventative treatments such as vaccinations.

We're seeking a flexible and compassionate individual with a passion for animal welfare and strong organisational ability. You'll need to be confident handling animals, capable of working independently, and thrive in a collaborative environment.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Demonstrated animal handling skills.
- Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- High attention to detail and time management skills.
- An open QLD driver's licence.
- Physical ability to lift and handle animals (minimum 10kg).
- A genuine interest in animal welfare.
