Job Title: Lead Structural Engineer

We are currently looking for a Lead Structural Engineer to join our team based in our Newcastle office to support recent business success and growth.

About the role
  1. Ensure structural design deliverables are completed according to standards, checked, approved, and issued to other disciplines and to the client with revision control documentation.
  2. Act in a client-facing role to lead and coordinate the activities of a project team to ensure time and budget objectives are achieved.
  3. Generate and review technical documents and deliverables.
  4. Prepare specifications, design criteria, scope of work and material take-off lists.
  5. Prepare engineering proposals and monitor budgets, staying within assigned budget and report any discrepancies.
  6. Complete tasks under minimal supervision ensuring that objectives of cost, quality and time are met.
  7. Maintain a high level of communication with the Project Manager/Engineering Manager and regularly inform of technical activities, staffing, budgets and schedules and explain reasons for actions taken.
  8. Contribute to the ongoing development of the structural engineering team to deliver and implement best practice technical solutions by applying knowledge of industry developments and from experience.
  9. Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in structural engineering.
  2. 10+ years' proven technical experience with an engineering consulting firm or other large organization. Mining/construction experience is desirable.
  3. Accreditation as a charter engineer (or equivalent) or ability to obtain.
  4. Strong design experience in brownfield environment highly desirable.
  5. Demonstrated experience in client-facing project management roles, leading design teams to deliver project outcomes.
  6. Demonstrated experience in the design of steel structures and concrete foundations for industrial and mining projects.
  7. Enhanced knowledge of the Engineering ISO, AS, ANSI, API etc. standard design codes.
  8. Ability to mentor and support the development of structural engineers within the team.
  9. Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and as part of a multidisciplinary group.
  10. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
