Director of Strategic Procurement and Mining Services

Rio Tinto, a leading global mining and materials company, is seeking an experienced Director of Strategic Procurement and Mining Services to lead a team in the delivery of category strategies across a diverse portfolio.

About the Role:
  • This role will work collaboratively with functional disciplines, mining operations, and Procurement Business Partners to develop commercial strategies, drive business priorities, and improve safety, people, sustainable value, partnerships, and growth for our assets.

The ideal candidate will have significant work experience in commercial and/or operational roles, preferably with prior exposure in managing mining-related categories. They should possess strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills, with proven capability in developing strategic solutions to critical business problems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evolving and implementing sub-category strategies related to Resource & Mining Services;
  • Identifying opportunities to uncover new value in safety, productivity, and cash through collaboration with strategic suppliers and internal stakeholders;
  • Leading the category team to deliver and implement commercial strategies aligned with Rio Tinto Iron Ore priorities;
  • Developing and leveraging partnerships to improve Indigenous employment outcomes and conduct sustainable engagement with Local, Indigenous, and Traditional Owner businesses;
  • Collaborating with Contractor Management teams and strategic suppliers to develop their safety maturity and improve safety performance;
  • Contributing to driving the Global Procurement and BP West Coast cultural and functional priorities as a member of the BP West Extended Leadership Team.

  • Comprehensive understanding of mining operations and deep experience in stakeholder engagement;
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and lead high-performing teams;
  • High stakeholder engagement standards with the ability to work across the matrix to drive sustainable outcomes;

What We Offer:

  • A competitive base salary ($120,000 - $180,000 AUD) reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive program;
