Job Overview

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services is responsible for ensuring community safety across the state through prevention, response, and recovery activities in emergency situations. The service comprises the Fire and Rescue Service, the Rural Fire Service, and the State Emergency Service, supporting other volunteer groups that provide emergency response to Queenslanders.

Purpose of the Role

The functions of the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services are unique, delivering high-quality fire, rescue, emergency, and disaster management services through a single agency. This collaborative approach across the service and with stakeholders delivers improved safety outcomes for the community.

Key Requirements

Mandatory Requirements

  • Employer's written consent to attend incidents and emergencies (where applicable)
  • Residence within a reasonable distance of auxiliary fire station
  • Australian Permanent Resident Status
  • Manual C Class driver's license

The QFES expects that all firefighters will commit to the following throughout their employment:

  • Attending incident and emergency calls – 50% as a day worker or 30% as a shift worker
  • Attending 75% of regular drill and training sessions
  • Obtaining an MRV license within 12 months of employment
  • Participating in ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance programs
  • Complying with QFES policies and procedures
Your Key Accountabilities
  • As a member of a team, respond to fire and other emergency incidents
  • Promote community safety and emergency preparedness
  • Develop and maintain competencies through training and drills
  • Maintain required attendance standards for emergency incidents and training
  • Operate firefighting and rescue equipment safely and effectively
  • Contribute to upkeep and hygiene of station facilities
  • Ensure maintenance and repair of operational equipment
  • Contribute to incident reporting and general station administration
