About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our Financial Markets Technology Team at Westpac. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in the development and implementation of our Market Risk Application Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and leadership to a small team of technical specialists in data engineering, development, and implementation of large-scale data processing systems.
  • Data Engineering: Design, develop, and implement data engineering solutions using Python, PySpark, and Palantir Foundry to process large datasets and provide data models and data preparation for market risk exposures.
  • Agile Project Management: Participate in sprint planning, ensure critical path delivery through various milestones to production, and maintain coding standards and patterns.
  • People Management: Provide leadership and guidance to a team of technical specialists, encourage professional development, and foster innovative practices.
  • Stakeholder Management: Develop strong relationships with L2/L3 support teams, business teams, and SMEs to understand business context and requirements.
Requirements
  • Technical Expertise: 10+ years of experience in data engineering design, coding, and development, with expertise in Python, PySpark, and Palantir Foundry.
  • Leadership Experience: 5+ years of experience leading a team of developers, with experience in Agile teams and financial markets and/or market risk banking.
  • Education: Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or a related discipline.
