About the Role:

Rio Tinto, a world leader in the iron ore industry, is seeking an experienced Pilbara Subterranean Fauna Specialist to join their State Agreements and Approvals team. As a key member of the team, you will lead a small group of biological advisors and consultants, contributing to industry research, field surveys, and innovation in assessing Pilbara biological values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review technical documents and biological datasets focusing on Pilbara subterranean and short-range endemic fauna.
  • Collaborate with internal approvals teams, project stakeholders, and other subject matter experts.
  • Develop scopes of work, technical reports, and datasets.
  • Advise internal approvals specialists on biological values.
  • Enhance biological assessment methods, processes, and technologies for continuous improvement.
  • BUILD effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and technical specialists.

Requirements:

  • Degree in zoology, ecology, environmental science, or equivalent.
  • Experience with subterranean fauna, ideally in the resources sector or Pilbara region.
  • Safely plan and prepare mobilization for field work.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to provide technical inputs to environmental approvals.
  • Strong partnering and influencing skills (problem-solving and analytical skills with quick decision-making ability).
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience with GIS software, preferably ArcGIS.
  • Valid C-Class Drivers Licence.

Estimated Salary: AU$120,000 - AU$180,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
