Geospatial Data Analyst Position

Our pioneering organization is supporting the Australian agricultural industry in their journey to sequester carbon and regenerate landscape.

Regenerative agricultural practices have tremendous potential to combat climate change by drawing down and removing large quantities of atmospheric carbon dioxide into the soil, in addition to increased productivity of farmland, draught resilience, soil health and biodiversity.

We combine industry leading measurement and modelling for Monitoring, Reporting and Verification approaches with practical on-farm advice to maximise project outcomes. Our diverse team includes machine learning researchers, software engineers, scientists, GIS experts, agricultural and soil specialists, and carbon project advisors.

The Opportunity

As a Geospatial Data Analyst, you will support a range of projects involving the spatial analysis of soil data, statistical sampling design, and integration of remote sensing technologies. You'll be working closely with scientists, software dev ops, ML ops, and other data specialists in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document geospatial analysis of soil attributes across varying landscapes and scales.
  • Design, evaluate and document statistically sound soil sampling frameworks.
  • Integrate drone-based LiDAR and remote sensing maps with soil attribute data.
  • Support geospatial models to understand and predict soil characteristics.
  • Work closely with data scientists, software engineers, and domain experts to deliver geospatial research milestones.

Requirements

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a small, agile team environment.
  • 3+ years of experience or recent tertiary education with a consistently high GPA in multivariate statistical analysis.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • Strong skills in scientific writing and developing oral presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in programming language such as Python, R, SAS, SPSS, Julia, Matlab.

Desirable Attributes

  • Geospatial statistical experience preferably in an environmental or agricultural context.
  • Exposure to modern multivariate sampling designs.
  • Experience with spatial tools such as QGIS or similar GIS platforms.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
  • Experience working with soil data, environmental datasets, or remote sensing technologies.
  • Exposure to machine learning or process models.
