About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Access Technology Specialist to join our team at Vision Australia.

The successful candidate will utilise a person-centred and strengths-based approach, providing services that focus on client needs and goals, and provide functional vision assessments and recommendations that address the priorities of clients of all ages.

Key responsibilities include providing information to clients and their carers/family about eye conditions, appropriate to their needs, and planning, developing, and delivering Access Technology training to clients either individually or in small groups, in a variety of formats and environments.

The ideal candidate will have a degree-level qualification relevant to the delivery of Access Technology services, and/or extensive experience in the provision of technology support and training for people who are blind or have low vision.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree-level qualification relevant to the delivery of Access Technology services, and/or extensive experience in the provision of technology support and training for people who are blind or have low vision;
  • A working knowledge or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of a range of access technologies including screen access technology, print access technology, including magnification equipment and Braille equipment;
  • Approved qualifications in Orthoptics as recognised by the Australian Orthoptic Association;
  • Registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board (Professional Body Registration where applicable i.e. Occupational Therapist needs AHPRA registration);
  • Knowledge and skills in working with children, adults and older adults.
