Cost Estimator

Estimator Position Overview:
The Estimator will play a pivotal role in formulating cost assessments for budgetary and tender submissions related to energy infrastructure projects. The primary responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:
- Generating initial cost assessments based on architectural plans and client specifications.
- Creating detailed spreadsheets to calculate labor and material costs in alignment with tender specifications.
- Drafting tenders and proposals for project bids.
- Identifying contract and cost alternatives to ensure profitable and sustainable tender submissions.
- Interpreting technical drawings and plans to facilitate precise estimating and pricing.
- Conducting thorough reviews of engineering drawings.
- Providing insights and assistance in the development of supply and subcontract agreements as needed.
- Evaluating contract performance to identify more effective contractual options.
- Preparing responses to client inquiries post-submission for clarification on various matters.
- Identifying, assessing, and recommending potential contractual opportunities.
- Contributing to the enhancement of policies and systems for tender and proposal estimating.
- Compiling historical data on ongoing projects.
- Reviewing tender documents and estimates to create a comprehensive list of assumptions and qualifications.
- Documenting reviews and lessons learned from unsuccessful tenders.
- Preparing handover documentation for successful tenders to the project execution team.
- Participating in regular project commercial progress meetings and providing assistance as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a proactive approach, and a strong focus on results and timelines. The successful candidate will have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in one of the following disciplines:
- Quantity Surveying
- Project Management
- Civil & Construction Engineering (Diploma or Degree)
- A minimum of three years of experience in estimating.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant work stream categories, along with industry exposure and critical skill capabilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A solid understanding of the construction process.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and all relevant in-house software.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills that motivate individuals and teams.
- A commitment to quality and precision in all tasks undertaken.
