About the Program
Building strong social connections is vital for overall health, particularly as we age. The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) and Volunteer Visitors program aims to assist older Australians residing in aged care facilities or their own homes who may be experiencing loneliness or social isolation. Volunteers are paired with older individuals, either one-on-one or in small groups, to foster friendship and companionship, enhancing their wellbeing and social ties.
As a visiting volunteer, you will conduct regular social visits to an older person in your community at a mutually agreed time. You may engage in friendly conversation, reminisce over a cup of tea, or participate in shared interests and activities such as playing cards or board games.
Role Requirements
This position requires excellent conversational skills and the ability to connect with a diverse range of older individuals, including those with varying experiences, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
All volunteers must complete a National Criminal Check. The Australian Red Cross will provide training, ongoing support, and access to additional opportunities within a leading humanitarian network.
Impact of Your Contribution
As a visiting volunteer, you will bring joy to an older person facing loneliness by offering companionship and social interaction. You will have the chance to learn from their unique experiences and knowledge, while they can gain insights from yours. In addition to the fulfillment of giving back, you will also be forming a meaningful friendship.
You will be part of the Australian Red Cross Aged & Community Care team, dedicated to supporting older and vulnerable individuals across Australia through various volunteer-based initiatives.
Application Process
For this role, you will be required to undergo a National Police Check, organized through the Australian Red Cross.
Additional Information
Thank you for considering a volunteering opportunity with the Australian Red Cross. We are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment with wellbeing at its core. We embrace diversity and welcome individuals from all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and those with different experiences, abilities, genders, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations. We are a child-safe organization with a zero-tolerance policy towards any harm to children. Our vision is to be recognized as the leading humanitarian organization making a genuine difference in the lives of individuals and communities.
