Support Worker for Youth Mental Health Services

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Family/Carer Peer Support Worker to join our Child & Youth Hospital Outreach Post-Suicidal Engagement (CY-HOPE) Team. The successful candidate will work with young people aged 0-18 who are at risk of suicide, providing peer support and promoting their recovery and wellbeing.
The role requires a lived experience of caring for a family member with mental health challenges that have changed the trajectory of your own life as they accessed services. You will bring a strong understanding of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed principles, as well as effective communication and interpersonal skills.
About Us:
The Early in Life Mental Health Services provides assessment and treatment for infants, children, adolescents, young people and their families. Our team works with the 0-18 age group in the Southern Region, providing a comprehensive service that includes inpatient treatment, community care and specialist services.
About You:
To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate a strong ability to establish relationships and provide emotional support to consumers and their families. You will also require effective written and verbal communication skills, as well as an understanding of diversity and inclusivity principles.
Requirements:
- Lived/living experience of caring for a family member with mental health challenges that have changed the course of your own life as they accessed services.
- Experience working in a Mental Health Lived Experience role, with the capacity to use recovery-oriented and trauma-informed principles when providing support to people at risk of suicide.
- Ability to establish strong, effective working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of the need to be sensitive to the needs of people from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse peoples.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support (IPS) training or similar qualification.
- Completion of Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or similar qualification.

Salary:
The estimated annual salary for this role is $85,000-$110,000, depending on your level of experience and qualifications.
