Job Title: Lead Modeller

Framestore is seeking an experienced Lead Modeller to join our team. As a key member of our visual effects department, you will be responsible for leading a team of artists on high-end projects, ensuring the production of highly accurate and efficient CG models.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of artists on a show, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Manage and assign tasks to team members, ensuring clear communication and workflow.
  • Collaborate with HOD and Supervisors on bid development and project planning.
  • Produce high-quality models from hero to smaller assets, as required.
  • Establish and maintain workflow templates, approach, and methods documentation.
  • Ensure department tools are available and properly set up for the show.
  • Act as the key contact for production and supervisors, addressing creative challenges and delays.
  • Maintain a good relationship with all departments, addressing issues promptly.
  • Train and mentor junior team members, promoting knowledge sharing and progression.
  • Provide regular feedback to artists, ensuring quality control and quality assurance.
  • Attend dailies and present team work, guiding artists on presentation techniques.
  • Advise HOD on project advancements for integration into other shows.
  • Report show issues affecting modelling to HOD and DM.
  • Set a high level of professionalism for the team, demonstrating calmness, integrity, and positivity.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in high-end VFX projects in a global studio.
  • Good working knowledge of Maya.
  • Creative, resourceful, and strong spatial awareness.
  • Very strong polygonal subdivision modelling skills.
  • Efficient with layout of UVs and awareness of texture requirements.
  • Able to interpret and follow reference material to create clean, highly detailed, and accurate models.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to organise own workflow in a meticulous manner.
  • Able to work well within a team.
Desirable Skills:
  • Ability to script in Python.
  • Cross-department skills, e.g. Texture, Lighting.
