Fruit and Vegetable Inspector Job Description

Target Business Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fruit and Vegetable Inspector to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of our fresh produce.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect fruits and vegetables upon arrival from suppliers to ensure they meet our quality standards.
  • Perform quality checks during sorting, grading, packaging, and loading for export and wholesale distribution.
  • Identify and separate defective, damaged, or substandard produce and recommend appropriate actions for disposal or downgrading.
  • Monitor storage conditions to ensure the optimal preservation of fresh produce.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international quality regulations, food safety standards, and export guidelines.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and farmers to provide feedback on quality issues and help implement corrective actions.
  • Keep accurate records of inspections, including detailed reports on product quality, defects, and compliance issues.

Requirements:

  • Minimum AQF associate degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2) or at least three years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of quality standards and grading systems for fruits and vegetables.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and quality certifications (e.g., HACCP, SQF).
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify subtle differences in product quality.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to provide clear feedback to suppliers and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
