About the Role

We are seeking a senior property underwriter to fill this key position in Melbourne, Australia. As a member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for assessing risks and making informed decisions that align with our strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a senior technical underwriter, bringing your extensive expertise in Property products to assess risks and make informed decisions.

  • Expand the Property portfolio in line with overall business appetites, controls, underwriting strategy, and guidelines.

  • BUILD strong and lasting relationships with major customers and brokers.

  • Underwrite and price Property risks, determining the acceptability of these complex risks.

  • Bind various coverages subject to authority level and respond to inquiries from producers and internal colleagues.

  • Prepare quotations and formal proposals on new and renewal business.

  • Ensure documentation is completed timely and accurately according to EGM or company standards.

  • Assist with the development and evolution of divisional pricing, accumulation, Catastrophe Management assessments, and other line related requirements.

  • Contribute to ongoing enhancement of underwriting processes and market positioning.

  • Effectively communicate with management on all issues and interact with other departments (e.g., Claims, Loss Control, and Accounting).

  • Responsible for complying with proper internal controls and purchasing acceptable Facultative Reinsurance where applicable.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Full understanding of the insurance industry and client/broker/insurer relationships.

  • Proven analytical skills necessary to judge the desirability of complex or unusual risks within assigned specialized line.

  • Proven record in insurance sales and leadership experience.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail, with proficiency in PC software and Microsoft Office.

Requirements

  • Previous insurance experience essential – minimum 10 years. Preferably Property and Commercial lines experience.

  • Tertiary qualification (Business or Statistics) desirable, but not essential.
