About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Medical Coding Auditor to join our Health Information Services team.

This role supports our clinical coding team within the quality and revenue assurance space, ensuring accurate and efficient medical coding practices.

The successful candidate will have excellent clinical coding skills and experience in auditing and analyzing coded data for accuracy and completeness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance to Clinical Coders on Australian Clinical Coding Standards and relevant coding advice.
  • Review coded episodes before invoicing to minimize inaccuracies.
  • Clarify ambiguities in coding and documentation with relevant committees and clinicians.
  • Analyze revenue recovery and identify coding/documentation deficiencies.
  • Participate in audits and follow up on recommendations.
  • Perform data and revenue quality functions.
  • Liaise with stakeholders regarding coding and documentation issues.
Essential Criteria
  • HIMAA Intermediate/Advanced Clinical Coding or Auditing Course.
  • At least 5 years of recent clinical coding experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Interest and understanding of commercial implications of coded data.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
Desirable Criteria
  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Information Management or equivalent.
  • Clinical Coding Audit qualification.
  • Knowledge of patient administration systems.
  • Previous experience in private hospital settings.
