Our team is seeking a Defence Policy Officer to provide expert advice and support the development of defence policies.

About the Role

This position plays a key role in shaping decision-making on whole-of-government matters related to defence, providing policy and financial advice to inform Government decisions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing budget, financial management and investment advice to support the Government's decision-making processes;
  • Collaborating with the Department of Defence, Australian Signals Directorate and other Defence entities to develop and progress Defence proposals;
  • Analysing, costing and reviewing new policy proposals and Defence capability investment proposals;
  • Preparing briefings to support the Expenditure Review Committee of Cabinet, National Security Committee of Cabinet, and National Security Investment Sub-committee of Cabinet;
  • Supporting the delivery of the Budget and Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook;
  • Reviewing updates to specific spending estimates and the Defence Integrated Investment Program;
  • Drafting briefings and correspondence for the Minister's consideration on Defence proposals.
