Position Overview:

We are seeking a Lead Botanist to enhance our Ecology Team within the Environmental Assessments and Approvals division. This role is ideal for an individual looking to leverage their expertise and enthusiasm in a rewarding environment.

Our Environmental Assessment and Approvals sector has experienced significant growth and is recognized as a leader in impact evaluation and approvals, terrestrial ecology, and environmental assessments across various domains. Our diverse team engages in numerous projects with a strategic emphasis on renewable energy, critical minerals, infrastructure, water management, and Defence initiatives at multiple scales.

Our well-established ecology team comprises 15 professionals, including botanists, ecologists, and zoologists, with varying levels of experience from technical directors to recent graduates. We foster a collaborative atmosphere, working closely with regional staff across various locations. The Ecology Team upholds values of inclusivity and professionalism, providing a supportive setting for you to apply your skills in flora and vegetation assessments. You will have the autonomy to manage your survey fieldwork and can focus on technical aspects if that aligns with your career aspirations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and conducting botanical surveys statewide, including detailed and targeted flora assessments.
  • Preparing comprehensive technical reports on vegetation and flora to support environmental evaluations.
  • Traveling across the state for surveys, often in remote areas, while maintaining a healthy work/life balance.
  • Executing specific ecological assessments and surveys.
  • Staying informed on ecological and botanical regulations and guidelines.
  • Making informed technical decisions and providing expert solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a related field.
  • 5-7+ years of relevant consulting experience as a botanist, ideally within the region.
  • Valid driver's license (C class), manual preferred.
  • Strong understanding of current environmental legislation and issues.
  • Proven track record in project management and teamwork.
  • Experience supervising junior staff, mentoring, and leading field surveys.
  • Ability to deliver critical project outcomes with enthusiasm and commitment.
