About this Role

The Registrar/Principal House Officer provides medical services under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist. These services must be evidence-based, efficient, effective and equitable to consumers within a public health setting. The Registrar/P,H,O is expected to acquire necessary skills and knowledge to satisfy the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) Australian Medical Board requirements to practice as a specialist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acquire knowledge and skills in assessment and clinical management of mental illness.
  • Develop interpersonal, communication, negotiation and organisational skills to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional education, including development and maintenance of personal knowledge and skills.
  • Understand and commit to the mental health recovery model of care, evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement to enhance service delivery outcomes.
  • Knowledge of National and State Mental Health directions and legislation relevant to provision of specialist mental health services.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Vaccinated against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
