Nurse Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse 2 to join our team in a community setting. The successful candidate will work within a treatment team to provide nursing services to individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities and their caretakers/families.
Key Responsibilities:- Visit individuals' homes to identify factors contributing to their disability and make recommendations for emergency or continuing care.
- Teach caretakers/family members methods of dealing with emergencies and provide advice on available medical, social, and housing facilities.
- Intervene and administer emergency treatment, engage in treatment modalities such as health teaching, individual and group psychotherapy, family therapy or milieu therapy as appropriate.
- Work with community agencies to ensure a coordinated team treatment plan.
- Supervise and counsel paraprofessional and professional personnel in health-related activities and participate in staff development and teaching programs.
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in New York State.
- Two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience, with one year providing direct services to individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, addiction, or substance use disorders in a community setting.
- Substitution: a bachelor's degree in nursing may substitute for one year of general post-licensure clinical nursing experience; a master's degree in nursing may substitute for two years of general post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
- Transfer qualifications: candidates must currently be a permanent Registered Nurse 2 or be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
