Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse 2 to join our team at the New York State Department of Health. As a Registered Nurse 2, you will work within a treatment team providing nursing services to individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities and their caretakers/families.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide nursing services to individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities and their caretakers/families.
- Visit individuals' homes to identify factors contributing to their disability and make recommendations for emergency or continuing care.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, teach caretakers/family members methods of dealing with emergencies, and provide advice on available medical, social, and housing facilities.
- Intervene and administer emergency treatment, engage in treatment modalities such as health teaching, individual and group psychotherapy, family therapy or milieu therapy as appropriate.
- Work with community agencies to ensure a coordinated team treatment plan.
- Supervise and counsel paraprofessional and professional personnel in health-related activities and participate in staff development and teaching programs.
- Licensure as a registered professional nurse in New York State.
- Two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience, with one year of experience providing direct services to individuals diagnosed with mental illness, developmental disabilities, addiction, or substance use disorders in a community setting.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing may substitute for one year of general post-licensure clinical nursing experience, and a master's degree in nursing may substitute for two years of general post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
- Permanent Registered Nurse 2 or eligibility for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
This position requires working in a community setting, visiting individuals' homes, and interacting with caretakers/family members. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a treatment team.
