Laboratory Specialist

Job Summary:
Laboratory specialists play a vital role in supporting the work of scientists and laboratory technicians. Their key responsibilities include routine receipting and processing of specimens, pre- and post-analytical specimen handling, identification and prioritization of urgent specimens, filing and storage of specimens, and data entry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Routine receipting and processing of specimens
- Pre- and post-analytical specimen handling
- Identification and prioritization of urgent specimens
- Filing and storage of specimens and data entry
- Assisting scientists in the lab as required
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Laboratory assistants must have excellent communication skills, be able to cope and thrive in a busy environment, and have the ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team. They must also understand the importance of following procedures accurately and adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures.
Benefits:
The ideal candidate will have experience in specimen processing and data entry, and exposure to medical terminology is desirable but not essential. A Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques or Pathology Collection is also desirable. The successful applicant will be committed to ongoing learning and professional development, and will be passionate about delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
