
Power System Automation Specialist

Job Overview
This is a challenging role that involves working on projects related to power system protection and automation. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills and excellent communication abilities.
The ideal candidate will have a background in electrical engineering or a related field, with relevant work experience in the industry. A strong understanding of power system design, studies, and information technology is essential.
Responsibilities- Design and implement automation solutions for power systems.
- Train and assist customers with the installation, commissioning, and operation of devices.
- Participate in the preparation of functional design specifications and detailed design documents.
- Prepare and maintain reports, checklists, and test reports.
- Follow and apply company values and principles.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in electric power systems, industry practices, and focus area practices and philosophies.
- Strong knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration, and/or automation and communications applications.
- Working knowledge of electric power system design, studies, information and communication technology, and protective relay applications.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% based on focus area.
- Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Engineer in Training certificate.
- Electrical utility, industrial plant, consulting engineering, or system integrator experience.
- Project engineering experience.
- Working knowledge of project management tracking software.
The following are some of the key areas we are focusing on:
- Automation = software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices.
- Business Development = Identifies, negotiates, and manages strategic business relationships.
- Civil = civil design and engineering theory, principles, and applications; structural design and constructability of electrical power substations including equipment, grading slopes, drainage, and applicable foundation types.
- Commissioning = perform commissioning and site acceptance testing in the field.
- Design = analyze technical specifications; create detailed physical and electrical designs, bill of materials, and job estimates.
- Networking = industrial control system networking experience, including provision, design, test, and implementation of wide area/local area networks.
- Project Manager = Full life-cycle project management of multiple large multi-discipline projects from proposal conception to commissioning and close-out.
- Proposals = Review customer RFQ documents for technical specifications and scope.
- Protection = system protection, protective relays, and their applications, settings, and testing.
- Security = industrial control system security experience, including technical controls, security assessments, policies, plans, and procedures.
- Studies = demonstrated experience using PSSE, ETAP, and/or RTDS.
