Job Title: Lead Modeller

Framestore is seeking an experienced Lead Modeller to join our team. As a key member of our modelling department, you will be responsible for leading a team of artists on high-end visual effects projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of modellers to produce high-quality CG models for use in VFX films.
  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of key assets on a show, including creative and technical challenges.
  • Manage team assignments and workflow to ensure efficient production.
  • Collaborate with HOD and Supervisors on bid development and project planning.
  • Produce models from hero to smaller assets as needed.
  • Establish and maintain workflow templates, approach and methods documentation, and ensure department tools are available and properly set up.
  • Act as key contact for production and supervisors, ensuring clear communication on creative challenges and solutions.
  • Maintain a good relationship with all departments and address any issues promptly.
  • Train and mentor junior team members, providing regular feedback and ensuring quality control.
  • Attend dailies and present team work, guiding artists on presentation.
  • Advise HOD on project progress and integration into other shows.
  • Report show issues affecting modelling to HOD and DM.
  • Set a high level of professionalism for the team, demonstrating calmness, integrity, and positivity.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in high-end VFX projects in a global studio.
  • Good working knowledge of Maya.
  • Creative, resourceful, and strong spatial awareness.
  • Very strong polygonal subdivision modelling skills.
  • Efficient with layout of UVs and awareness of texture requirements.
  • Able to interpret and follow reference material to create clean, highly detailed, and accurate models.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to organise own workflow in a meticulous manner.
  • Able to work well within a team.
Desirable Skills:
  • Ability to script in Python.
  • Cross-department skills, e.g. Texture, Lighting.
