Court Child Expert Role

About the Role

Federal Court Australia is seeking experienced social workers and psychologists to join our team as Court Child Experts. As a Court Child Expert, you will play a critical role in providing specialist social science expertise to assist families and the Courts in making decisions that are in children's best interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive family assessments, including interviews and observations with children, to inform Court decisions.
  • Undertake risk screening and risk assessment to identify potential safety concerns and develop safety plans.
  • Provide expert evidence to the Courts through written reports and testimony.
  • Assist parties in resolving disputes through participation in parenting dispute resolution conferences.
  • Provide advice on external support services for children and families.

Requirements

  • A recognised degree in social work or general registration as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency.
  • Minimum five years' relevant clinical experience working with children and families.
  • A clearance for working with children as required within the relevant State/Territory scheme.
