National Security Policy Lead Job Description
We are seeking a National Security Policy Lead to contribute to key policy and national security functions.
This role involves leading a team to strengthen Australia's national security and economic resilience. Your responsibilities may include devising long-term strategy and policy, guiding Defence's international engagement, or building a sovereign industrial base.
National Security Policy Lead roles in the Strategy, Policy, and Industry Group are highly varied, but all involve leading and developing high-performing teams to deliver national security objectives. Your daily work could include preparing the Minister for talks with international counterparts, providing policy guidance for operations, scanning emerging strategic issues, or guiding industry to meet Defence requirements.
No two days would be the same - guiding your team's work, mentoring team members, conducting meetings with stakeholders, briefing senior leadership, consulting with government agencies and industry stakeholders, or contributing to corporate transformational change.
We offer flexible working arrangements, professional development opportunities, and a range of benefits. However, each position is located in Canberra, so successful applicants from outside the city would need to relocate if selected.
Working within our Group offers opportunities to work on diverse national security and policy matters of national significance. We actively support mobility within the Group when the time is right, but also value expertise development in specific areas.
To succeed as a National Security Policy Lead, you require practised leadership and people skills, sound judgement with innovative problem-solving, superior written and verbal communication skills, strong relationship-building stakeholder skills, and adaptability, resilience, and flexibility in changing priorities.
