Job Title: Dynamic Character Artist

Crowd simulation is an essential element of creating immersive and timeless animated films. As a skilled Dynamic Character Artist, you will play a pivotal role in designing and setting up crowd assets, HDAs, and bipeds/quadrupeds within the existing Houdini pipeline.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key areas:
Key Responsibilities:
  • Setup and Testing: Configure crowd assets and HDAs within the existing Houdini pipeline, test new procedures, and workflows to ensure seamless integration.
  • Crowd Agent Design: Create efficient crowd agents (bipeds/quadrupeds and vehicles) for simulation, utilizing strong understanding of Houdini crowd agent design and setup.
  • Collaboration with Animation Teams: Work closely with animation teams to identify behaviors and breakdown cycles for artists, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Set Filling and Automation: Implement efficient ways to fill sets and shots with life in collaboration with FX Department Supervisor and Crowd Lead, using automation tools to streamline processes.
  • Tool Development: Provide feedback to TDs to develop tools and workflows associated with crowd simulation, evaluating issues arising in crowd setup and devising solutions.
  • Automation Templates: Build templates geared towards automation, ensuring consistency and efficiency in crowd simulation.

Requirements:
  • Experience: 3+ years' Houdini experience on feature films, TV, and/or animated features with a focus in Houdini Crowds.
  • Strong Understanding: Strong understanding of Houdini crowd agent design and setup, production experience using Houdini SOPs/DOPs essential.
  • Digital Assets: Experience building Houdini digital assets, solid understanding of motion principles of rigging and animation.
  • Crowd Shading and Rendering: Good understanding of crowd shading and rendering procedurals, attention to design and artistic detail.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, excellence in problem-solving and producing high-quality results.
