The Role

This role involves assisting with the mechanical & electrical maintenance of vessels, pontoon, vehicles, tenders, outboards, air-conditioning, refrigeration, lighting, davits, and lifting systems.

Main responsibilities include:

  1. Problem Solving: Diagnosing system problems when they occur.
  2. Maintenance Logs: Accurately maintaining logs and work orders through to job completion and sign off.
  3. Adherence: Adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Marine Memos, operation procedures, and Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.
  4. Scheduled Maintenance: Following the scheduled maintenance program for all mechanical, electrical, air control, and safety equipment on a regular basis on the vessels, tenders, pontoon, etc.
  5. Engine Maintenance: Maintaining main and auxiliary engines, hydraulic pumps, hydraulic cylinders (rams), water pumps, electric generators, lights, navigation systems, ventilation systems, underwater running gear, and any other mechanical, hydraulic, electrical gear on board.
  6. Emergency Systems: Maintaining emergency generations, emergency steering, and firefighting systems to ensure compliance in line with legislation.
  7. Fault Finding: Fault finding and additional repairs.
Your Skills

To be successful in this role, you will have / be

  • Highly Skilled: Highly skilled and experienced with a strong marine diesel engine industry background.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Teamwork: Be team-oriented with a positive, adaptable 'can do' attitude.
  • Marine Safety: Maintain high levels of marine safety and compliance – Ensure all training and certificates are up to date.
  • Log Keeping: Always maintain a thorough and complete onboard engineer's log after completion of any job.
  • System Effectiveness: Take proactive remedial action to maintain systems and operation effectiveness.
  • Risk Aversion: Safety first and be risk-averse.
  • Asset Management: Interactive use of HELM (Asset Management System) and timely upkeep of maintenance requests.
  • Cleanliness: Clean and tidy in all aspects.
  • Proactivity: Proactive in finding and remedying any onboard issues with the vessels.
Qualifications
  • Trade Qualification: Trade qualification with time served diesel mechanic preferred.
  • Driver's Licence: Open Manual Driver's Licence.
  • First Aid Certification: HLTAID011 Provide First Aid & Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
  • Working at Heights: Working at heights (desirable).
  • Confined Spaces: Working in confined spaces (desirable).
  • Forklift Operation: Forklift Licence (desirable).
