About Us:
The University of Melbourne has partnered with the National Native Title Council to establish The Mabo Centre, a joint initiative dedicated to supporting First Nations groups and corporations in proper and effective negotiation and execution of agreements that adhere to the principles of self-determination and Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).
Job Description: As the Research Lead at The Mabo Centre, you will have the opportunity to lead impactful research at the intersection of Native Title law, Indigenous rights, and socio-economic development. Your role will involve working closely with Traditional Owners and key stakeholders to translate agreements into vehicles for self-determination and lasting community benefits.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Research Strategy: Develop and implement research initiatives aligned with Traditional Owners' needs and Centre objectives.
- Foster Partnerships: Build strong relationships with Indigenous organisations, industry, and government to support research and funding.
- Manage Academic Team: Nurture a high-performing research team and oversee workforce matters.
- Secure Funding: Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support the Centre's research programme.
- Supervise Postgraduates: Provide guidance to postgraduate and Ph D candidates as required.
About You: You are a passionate researcher with extensive experience in Native Title law and policy, committed to advancing Indigenous interests through applied research and stakeholder engagement. To be successful in this role, you will require a PhD or postgraduate degree in law, business, or a related field, as well as a proven track record of high-quality academic research and policy publications.
