The Clearance Diver role in the New Zealand Defence Force is a challenging and rewarding career that involves mine clearance, underwater explosives, and search and rescue operations. As a Clearance Diver, you will be trained in mine clearance and underwater explosives, using the latest diving equipment. You will also be involved in search and rescue operations, conducting underwater engineering on ships and structures.
Career Progression and TrainingYou will start your career with initial training, followed by a period of consolidation with the Clearance Diving Group or at sea. You will then complete your first professional diving course, and further courses, promotion and training will follow to assist with career progression and advancement. You will be skilled in mine countermeasures, clearance diving, underwater engineering and the disposal of explosive ordnance and improvised explosive devices.
Salary and BenefitsCareers in the Navy are well-rewarded, with salaries increasing as you become more experienced and move up through the ranks. You will also receive additional allowances for time spent in the field, at sea, overseas, or deployed on operations. You will be paid as a Recruit while undertaking Basic Recruit Course, and your pay will continue to increase as your career progresses. You will be eligible for a competitive salary, additional allowances, and other benefits, including access to your Service marae or túringa, sponsored tertiary study programmes, and free access to gyms and swimming pools on camp and bases.
Entry RequirementsTo be eligible for this role, you must be:
- A minimum of 17 years of age upon entry.
- Free of any criminal conviction for the previous two years.
- Medically fit for service.
- Meet the minimum entry fitness standards.
- Pass the RNZN Diver Selection Board.
As a Clearance Diver, you will be responsible for:
- Mine clearance and underwater explosives.
- Search and rescue operations.
- Underwater engineering on ships and structures.
As a Clearance Diver, you will receive:
