Implementing Sustainable Diversion Limits (SDLs) across Australia's Murray-Darling Basin is a pivotal opportunity to shape its future and protect it for generations to come.

This role leads the work in SDL accounting, ensuring effective implementation of the Basin Plan. The team accounts for surface and groundwater use each year, relative to SDLs set in the plan. Strategic leadership and technical expertise inform advice, strategy, and policy development under the Basin Plan.

The Director provides drive and direction for the team, working closely with other parts of the Basin Plan Portfolio and stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic guidance and inspiring a shared purpose and direction
  • Developing and implementing the SDL accounting framework
  • Improving understanding of water use across the Murray-Darling Basin using latest technological advancements and data analysis
  • Leading analysis of water take data and providing sound advice on water use, trends, and water accounting policy
  • Collaborating with agencies, influencing, and engaging with stakeholders, including chairing official inter-government committees
