We are seeking an experienced Data Engineering Team Lead to join our innovative team at CHEP, a global leader in the logistics and supply chain industry.

About the Role

  • This is a leadership position that oversees the design and implementation of scalable, secure data pipelines and architectures, ensuring data integrity and governance.
  • You will be responsible for leading a small, growing team in designing and implementing robust data solutions, driving cost efficiency, and improving data quality.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead a team in designing and implementing highly scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant data management and processing systems.
  2. Direct the creation and optimization of complex data models that serve as the backbone for data as a product.
  3. Ensure that the data generated or processed is of high quality, secure, and reliable enough to be considered a stand-alone product.
  4. Manage ETL processes, identify new opportunities for data acquisition, and ensure that data pipelines are secure, efficient, and aligned with governance policies.
  5. Continuously review system efficiency and resource utilization to identify areas for cost optimization while maintaining or improving data quality and security.
  6. Implement and enforce stringent data governance and security protocols, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  7. Manage disaster recovery plans and protocols, ensuring rapid data recovery while minimizing loss in the event of a failure.
  8. Mentor, train, and develop team members to foster a community of data engineering experts who follow best practices, contribute to innovation, and uphold data integrity and security.
  9. Work closely with stakeholders to ensure that data engineering efforts are aligned with broader organizational goals and projects.
  10. Regularly conduct audits to ensure data integrity, security, and governance and coordinate with compliance teams to address any gaps or vulnerabilities.

What You'll Need

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Statistics, or related technical fields.
  • A proven track record in Data Modelling and Data Engineering.
  • Expertise in data-related tools and technologies such as SQL, VBA, Python, R, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Tableau, QlikView, and Power BI.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge and experience with relational databases and query authoring.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies (AWS S3, RedShift) and integration tools (SSIS, AWS Glue, PySpark).
  • Data modeling skills in SQL Server Analysis Services and Power BI.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills to tackle complex problems and lead a team in implementing solutions.
  • Ability to work cohesively with colleagues and stakeholders, utilizing tools like JIRA, Lucid, and Zephyr Scale.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing team members, and presenting results to senior stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in data engineering and leadership roles.

The estimated salary for this position is AU$120,000 - AU$150,000 per annum, depending on experience and location.
