About the Role

The State Government of Victoria, Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Policy Manager to join the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist.

The successful candidate will provide operational and policy advice to the Chief Psychiatrist, leading and managing key projects and activities supporting the work of the OCP.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the operational aspects of the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, including management of the team, advice and strategy development, and policy work.
  • Provide clear leadership in relationship to key stakeholders, especially intergovernmental stakeholders, with the provision of timely expert advice, open and effective communication strategies, and the need to balance complex, contentious, or sensitive information.
  • Represent the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist on key committees and groups concerned with achieving government and departmental objectives, lead relevant committee and governance processes.
  • Ensure alignment of the work of the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, in particular quality and safety responsibilities, with key stakeholders including the Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission and Safer Care Victoria.
  • Manage the implementation of recommendations of the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System and implementation of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 as they relate to the role of the Chief Psychiatrist.
  • Provide operational leadership to the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, consider processes and workloads, and balance competing needs to enable office staff to provide consistent high-quality clinical leadership to the sector.
  • Provide strategic leadership to the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist.
  • Support future planning and oversee change management initiatives and integrated approaches to enhance the work of the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist.
  • Effectively supervise and provide leadership to a team of employees.
  • Proactively establish and maintain productive and consultative relationships with peers and stakeholders across the department and with external stakeholders to facilitate a partnership approach.
  • Identify emerging issues, risk, and trends impacting on the successful achievement of key business objectives and imperatives and provide high-quality business intelligence and sound recommendations based on comprehensive research and investigations.
