Job Overview: We are seeking a qualified Solicitor Level 2 to join our team in the Legal Services Branch, Policy Advisory and Legal Services Division. As a junior solicitor, you will be responsible for providing effective and efficient legal advisory services and advocacy to support the Commissioner of State Revenue in matters arising from Acts administered by the State Revenue Office.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct your own litigation and advice case-load with supportive legal supervision
• Undertake legal research and interpret and apply legislation
• Prepare and conduct cases for litigation at VCAT and the Courts
• Brief and instruct counsel at interlocutory proceedings and substantive hearings
• Communicate directly with internal stakeholders, customers, and their legal representatives

Requirements:

• Been admitted as an Australian lawyer
• Between 1-3 years recent post-admission employment experience as an Australian lawyer in the public or private sector
• Strong academics, with knowledge of – and preferably direct experience in - the litigation, tribunal, and court processes
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, sound decision-making, and problem-solving skills
• Strong computer skills, including Adobe, for preparation of court documents
