Health and Safety Specialist

Location: Townsville Correctional Complex

Job Description

The Health and Safety Specialist will contribute to the Department's commitment to providing and maintaining a culture for a safe, healthy, and supportive work environment.

This role provides significant support and advice to centre management to promote and embed a safety culture across the complex and assists with the implementation and review of the QCS Health Safety and Wellbeing framework.

The specialist will co-ordinate safety systems incorporating hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigations, safety assurance and initiatives, to ensure positive outcomes for staff and the Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on health and safety standards and processes;
  • Investigate incidents and near misses and implement corrective actions;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration on health and safety matters.

Essential Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in the application of risk management strategies and methodologies;
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills;
  • Interpersonal skills for negotiating with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Research and analytical skills for investigating issues and analysing trends.
