Expert Psychiatric Care Specialist

The role of an Expert Psychiatric Care Specialist is to provide high-quality, expert psychiatric care assessment and management for patients with an intellectual disability or on the autism spectrum.

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments and develop personalized treatment plans to address the unique needs of each patient.
  • Work collaboratively as a consultation liaison to community and inpatient teams, providing expert advice and support to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to promote a culture of open communication and trust.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver excellent clinical care, utilizing evidence-based practices and staying up-to-date with the latest research and guidelines.
  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and provide detailed reports to inform treatment decisions.
  • Develop and implement complex treatment plans, incorporating multiple disciplines and stakeholders as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia and a valid annual practicing certificate are essential.
  • A fellowship with the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) is highly desirable, although not mandatory.
  • Specialist registrants will be given preference, but non-specialists or overseas-trained specialists may be considered if they demonstrate significant progression towards fellowship.
