Role Overview:

This role is an identified position for an Aboriginal person who will support local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the preservation and celebration of their cultures.

The successful applicant will have a strong profile and reputation within the local community, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive Council's progress in achieving Closing the Gap targets
  • Develop policy and strategy that embeds Aboriginal cultural awareness and knowledge throughout the organisation
  • Develop and leverage relationships between Council and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities, and government departments
  • Provide oversight of projects and initiatives addressing specific Closing the Gap targets

Working closely with community organisations and other stakeholders, this role aims to address the social determinants impacting Indigenous Australians. The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting equality and driving meaningful change.

The right candidate will have exceptional project management skills, the ability to collaborate with diverse groups, and a genuine commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
