Climate Change Negotiations and Engagement Leader

The Climate Change Negotiations Division is a newly established division within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. The Climate Change Negotiations and Engagement Branch plays a crucial role in Australia's engagement with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The successful candidate will lead Australia's approach to multilateral climate change issues, collaborating closely with colleagues working on international, bilateral, and domestic climate and energy matters. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing Australia's strategy for UNFCCC negotiations, focusing on mitigation, adaptation, climate finance, loss and damage, gender and indigenous issues, markets, and transparency.
  • Supporting Australia's bid to host COP31, a major international climate conference.
  • Providing strategic advice on cross-cutting climate change issues, ensuring alignment with national and international commitments.

You must also possess excellent stakeholder relationship management skills and be able to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
