The University of Western Australia is seeking a skilled specialist to manage the physical resources and operations of its electron microprobe capability. This role involves providing high-level expertise to support academic staff, technical staff, students, and external stakeholders with their research pursuits.

About the Role:
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the electron microprobe capability, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control.
  • Provide training, advice, and support in all aspects of electron microprobe workflows, from sample preparation through to data acquisition and analysis.
  • Collaborate with researchers to develop new applications and techniques for the electron microprobe.
  • Maintain accurate records of usage, maintenance, and repair of the electron microprobe equipment.

This position requires a tertiary education or demonstrated equivalent competency. Advanced knowledge of electron microprobe workflows and their applications within research, especially in the geosciences, is essential. Experience in sample preparation relevant to electron microprobe is also necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Ensure the smooth operation of the electron microprobe equipment by performing routine maintenance tasks and resolving technical issues as they arise.
  • Training and Support: Provide guidance and assistance to users on the proper use and operation of the electron microprobe.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with researchers to identify new opportunities for the application of electron microprobe technology.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of equipment usage, maintenance, and repairs.
