
Product Design Specialist

This position involves researching trends, creating mood boards, curating cohesive collections, and designing commercially strong products from conception through development. Responsibilities include performing GAP analyses, designing assortment, collaborating with suppliers, sourcing fabrics, conducting fittings, and contributing to cost reduction initiatives.
Main Responsibilities
- Maintain a constant pulse on the market landscape including consumer needs, competition, trends, and brand position.
- Understand and drive company-wide strategies and objectives.
- Engage with multiple departments to understand how the business operates and support cross-functional collaboration.
- Identify sales opportunities through trends, colors, market research, and customer insights; translate market and trends into commercially viable opportunities for the buying team.
- Work with the buying team to ensure ranges and products align with buyer needs and category strategy.
- Manage the full development cycle of new, exclusively developed products; oversee all aspects from design hand-off through product launch.
- Participate in quarterly trend presentations with the product development leadership team; translate market styles to customers.
- Assist product development leadership in building capsule collections with buying and merchandising partners for the Australian market with global viability.
- Create mood boards for suppliers and buyers; create CADs or flats for supplier development.
- Lead and manage all pre-production samples; ensure exclusives meet quality, fit, and styling standards.
- Result-oriented and self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
- Able to prioritise projects frequently.
- Excellent verbal communication to collaborate with colleagues at all levels.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate across teams.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Keen attention to detail with strong multi-tasking abilities.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguous and fast-paced environments.
- Data-driven decision-making, sound business judgment, and analytical thinking to support recommendations.
- Ability to organise, prioritise, and manage workload in a dynamic environment.
- 2+ years of experience in design or product development (fast fashion experience is highly desirable).
- Understanding of current and future trends for the Australian market.
- Strong working knowledge of fabrics, trims, and garment construction.
- CAD development and sketching skills.
- Deep knowledge of the Product Development Lifecycle and its components.
- Ability to help source new suppliers if gaps exist in the supplier base.
