Electoral Support Staff Member

At Programmed, we are seeking a team of dedicated Electoral Support Staff to assist with the upcoming State election. As an Electoral Support Staff member, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of polling places across Western Australia.
About the RoleThis is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about contributing to the democratic process.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with various duties such as issuing ballot papers, managing queues, and supporting electors with language or literacy requirements.
As a General Assistant, you may also be required to set up polling places on the night before polling day and assist with the count and pack-up after polling day.
About the Job DescriptionThe job description includes:
- Issuing Officer: Responsible for issuing ballot papers to electors on polling day who reside within the district and are on the electoral roll.
- Student Electoral Officer: Year 11 or 12 students will assist in polling place duties performed by Officers. Limited hours.
- Voter Information Officer: Engaged centrally through the Electoral Ambassador program; may be assigned to polling places with high concentrations of culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) or indigenous electors.
- General Assistant: Larger polling places will have one to two General Assistants allocated to them. They may assist with the setup of a polling place on the night before polling for a maximum of three hours.
- Ballot Box Guard: Ensures the correct ballot box papers are put into the ballot boxes (also rotates as an issuing officer and queue controller).
- Queue Controller: Manages the queue into the polling place and directs electors as needed (also rotates as an issuing officer and ballot box guard).
As an Electoral Support Staff member, you will work on a variety of shifts, including weekends and evenings. The specific dates and times will vary depending on the location and role.
You will be expected to work independently and as part of a team to ensure the smooth operation of polling places.
About the Salary and BenefitsWe offer a competitive salary for this role, estimated to be around $25-$30 per hour, based on the level of experience and qualifications required.
