Strategic Policy Advisor Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Policy Advisor to join our team.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of government policies and procedures, with excellent communication and analytical skills. They will be responsible for providing strategic advice to senior executives and stakeholders on fiscal and economic priorities, as well as working closely with colleagues in Finance's Agency Advice Units, the Treasury and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing and implementing whole-of-government policies in collaboration with portfolio departments and entities;
  • Advising on the design and management of decision-making processes for the finalisation of annual Budgets and Mid-Year Economic Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO) documents;
  • Providing policy and financial support to the Expenditure Review Committee of Cabinet and senior executives;
  • Delivering reports on public sector resourcing issues, including employment trends and workforce planning;
  • Assisting in the development of budget strategies and recommendations for the Government's fiscal priorities;
  • Participating in stakeholder engagement activities to promote the department's work and influence policy decisions;

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate degree in a relevant field such as economics, politics or international relations;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in policy development, analysis and implementation;
  • Proven ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to stakeholders at all levels;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft high-quality documents and presentations;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing competing deadlines;
