About the Role:

  • Maintain expertise in technical specialisms and provide advice on development, support, and maintenance of departmental applications, focusing on Microsoft SQL and Database Administration.
  • Undertake system design, development, and ongoing maintenance for applications and systems, including developing strategies and criteria for testing application features using structured test plans and documentation.
  • Design, code, test, correct, and document complex programs and scripts from agreed specifications, ensuring a well-engineered result.
  • Investigate corporate data requirements and apply quality assurance techniques to establish, modify, or maintain data structures and their associated components.
  • Develop and implement standards, guidelines, and processes to ensure effective and efficient delivery of information technology aligned with departmental and whole-of-government business development.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in writing, optimizing, and debugging complex queries and stored procedures.
  • Expertise in managing large datasets with efficient indexing and query performance.
  • Deep understanding of database schema design, data modeling, and relationships between multiple tables.
  • Experience with modularizing and refactoring legacy SQL code for scalability.
  • Strong knowledge of database-specific tools and environments (e.g., SQL Server Management Studio).
  • Skilled in identifying performance bottlenecks and improving query efficiency.
  • Proficient in handling complex data types and advanced SQL features.
  • Expertise in implementing robust error handling and debugging techniques.
  • Critical thinker able to approach problems methodically and develop scalable solutions.
  • Understanding of database security, ensuring procedures meet security and compliance standards.
  • Ability to translate complex technical details into clear explanations for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation skills to ensure future maintainability of SQL code.
  • Collaboration with business analysts and product owners to align SQL procedures with business needs.

Salary: The estimated annual salary for this position is approximately $90,000-$110,000 AUD, based on industry standards and the location.

Brisbane Location: This role is based in Brisbane City with flexibility for working from home.
