Job Overview

The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to fill the role of Engagement Assistant Director in the Eastern NSW region.

This key leadership position plays a crucial role in strengthening relationships with stakeholders, advancing the interests of First Nations peoples, and driving positive change within the community.

About the Role

  • Lead teams to deliver the NIAA's work program within Key Performance Measures and quality indicators;
  • Oversee the development, coaching, and mentoring of staff to ensure they possess the necessary skills and expertise to achieve desired outcomes;
  • Foster effective relationships with internal and external partners, stakeholders, and service providers to promote the NIAA's business objectives;
  • Strategically plan and implement initiatives to drive cultural safety and understanding within the workplace;
  • Maintain a high level of commitment to creating a culturally safe environment by actively promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing strategies to enhance stakeholder engagement and partnership building;
  • Cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and industry partners;
  • Providing guidance and support to staff to ensure they are equipped to deliver high-quality results;
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing;
  • Monitoring and evaluating program outcomes to inform future decision-making and strategic planning.

  • Hold a clear understanding of the Closing the Gap agenda and its relevance to the NIAA's work;
  • Be knowledgeable about key issues faced by First Nations peoples and possess sound judgment and professionalism;
  • Show ability to lead teams, manage relationships, and foster a culturally safe workplace;
  • Possess high-level capability to oversee staff development, coaching, and mentoring.
