About the Role

As a Senior Health Information Manager, you will play a pivotal leadership role within our expanding Clinical Coding Service team. This is a full-time opportunity with flexible hybrid working arrangements, including a convenient office location in Heidelberg and easy access to multiple public transport options.

Austin Health is a major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education, and research across three campuses in Melbourne's Northeast and state-wide. Our highly engaged, diverse, and collaborative workforce is united by our goal to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.

The Health Information Service (HIS) plays a crucial role in managing, organizing, and disseminating health-related data and information. By ensuring accurate and timely access to relevant information, we aim to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high-quality coding of inpatient episodes using ICD-10-AM classification and 3M Australian Grouping and Coding Applications software in accordance with Australian and Victorian Coding Standards
  • Applying detailed specialist clinical coding knowledge across a broad range of clinical specialties in a tertiary hospital setting
  • Mentoring and training Health Information Managers and Clinical Coders
  • Working closely with staff at various levels within Austin Health to provide accurate and up-to-date information and advice on clinical coding, DRG allocation, and associated reimbursement
  • Participating in the development and delivery of comprehensive coding education to staff within the service
  • Contributing to internal coding auditing programs, promoting quality coding and accurate DRG allocation, and providing feedback to all staff
  • Promoting the activities of the Clinical Coding Service within Austin Health

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Successful completion of a clinical coding course approved by the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA), including a minimum of 5 years' unsupervised coding experience within a tertiary public health care facility
  • Demonstrated experience in a Senior Coding or Leadership role
  • Proven ability to plan, implement, and deliver education and training activities to clinical coders, trainees, and other hospital staff
  • Excellent clinical coding and auditing skills using ICD-10-AM 12th edition and strong knowledge of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs)
  • Eligibility for full membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team and contribute to the provision of high-quality health information management services. With a competitive salary of $120,000 - $150,000 per annum, depending on experience, you will enjoy a range of benefits, including generous salary packaging, five weeks' annual leave (pro-rata for part-time), mentoring and career development opportunities, support from an experienced and friendly team, and a comprehensive wellbeing program.

We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace and welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds. For more information, please contact Verge Das Neves.
